Research

In general, my research can be thought of as falling into two main categories:  Personality and Health.

Personality Research
I am interested in all aspects of personality, however, most of my research in this area is related to defense mechanisms.  Defense mechanisms are unconscious processes that help people deal with stress, anxiety, conflict., etc.  The concept of defense mechanisms is perhaps one of the most significant contributions that psychoanalysis has made to empirical research.  Most of my current research focuses on defense mechanisms and their relation to other personality constructs and to both physical and mental health.  If you would like to read more about defense mechanisms and my research in this area click on the following link.

Health Psychology Research
In terms of health psychology my interests are again broad.  My current research has been focused on blood pressure and hypertension.  In particular, I am studying how personality factors such as anger and hostility and how they relate to blood pressure levels and hypertension.  If you would like to read more about my research in this area you can click on the following link.

Additional Research
Although much of my research focuses on the above areas, I am involved in other areas of research.  Some of the other projects I have been involved in, or am currently collecting data for include:
      Premenstrual syndrome and mood
      Psychotherapeutic treatment of fibromyalgia
The five factors of personality and defense mechanisms
      Diagnosis of eating disorders
      Body image
      Drive for muscularity
      Rape and rape myths
Culture and its influence on diagnosis and treatment
